Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Technique Beats Size

Jiu-Jitsu teaches children to stay calm under pressure and solve problems with their body and mind. It's a safe, low-impact way to learn real self-defence – with no punches or kicks.

Real Self-Defence

Control and escape from bigger opponents using leverage and technique.

Anti-Bullying Confidence

Children who know they can stay safe carry themselves with quiet confidence.

Fitness & Flexibility

A full-body workout disguised as play – strength, balance and endurance.

Compete if They Want

Optional pathways into local and national competitions, with an invitation-only Advanced class.

The Titans Syllabus

The Best of Every Discipline

Our kids' programme gives children a strong foundation across striking, grappling and self-defence. As they progress through the ranks they become well-rounded martial artists, ready to specialise when they move into our adult programmes.

Striking

From Boxing and Muay Thai – building coordination, timing and control.

Grappling

From Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – takedowns, control and submissions.

Self-Defence

Practical skills to help children stay safe in real situations, standing or on the ground.

Life Skills

Confidence, respect, discipline and focus that carry over into school and home.

Ages 3–4 · Our youngest Titans

Tiny Titans

Tiny Titans builds motor skills, communication and confidence through fun, high-energy games. At this age classes are 80% play and 20% technique – movement-based drills develop balance, agility, speed and awareness while introducing basic martial arts in a playful way.

What they'll learn

  • Balance, coordination and body awareness
  • Listening, taking turns and following instructions
  • First martial arts movements through games
  • Confidence around other children and coaches

Led by Elaine, who brings over 20 years of childcare experience as a qualified Nursery Nurse and Pre-School Teacher. Small class sizes so every child gets attention.

Ages 5–8 · The Titans syllabus begins

Mini Titans

Training becomes more structured, with children learning real techniques in a 60% play / 40% technique format. We introduce fundamental skills in striking and grappling while still using games to develop coordination, awareness and fitness. This age group is pushed a little more physically and mentally, building independence and focus.

What they'll learn

  • Striking basics from Boxing and Muay Thai
  • Grappling basics from Wrestling and BJJ
  • Practical self-defence and stranger awareness
  • Focus, discipline and working towards gradings

Mini Titans and Junior Titans follow the same Titans syllabus for each rank – the classes are simply split by age.

Ages 9–13 · Technique, leadership & confidence

Junior Titans

Junior Titans move into a technique-driven curriculum, with games used to reinforce learning. Training covers striking, BJJ, wrestling and self-defence in a more mature, structured format. Students are expected to lead by example, help newer teammates and show strong communication – preparing them for a smooth move into our adult programmes.

What they'll learn

  • Combinations, footwork and defence
  • Takedowns, control and submissions
  • Real-world self-defence
  • Leadership, resilience and helping others

Same Titans syllabus as Mini Titans for each rank, taught in a style suited to older children.

Ages 4–5 · First steps in BJJ

Tiny's Jiu Jitsu

A gentle first introduction to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for our youngest grapplers. Through games, movement and fun drills, little ones learn how to roll, balance, hold positions and move safely on the mats – building confidence from the very first session.

What they'll learn

  • Safe rolling, falling and moving on the mats
  • Simple positions and escapes through games
  • Teamwork, respect and patience
  • Strength, flexibility and coordination

Loan gis are provided for trial classes, so there's nothing to buy before you try.

Ages 6–13 · Dedicated kids BJJ

Children's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

A dedicated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programme that builds confidence, discipline and real self-defence in a safe, structured environment. All training is in the Gi, teaching children to control, escape and submit using technique and leverage rather than size. Open to complete beginners through to experienced young grapplers, grouped by age, size and ability.

What they'll learn

  • Takedowns, positional control, sweeps and escapes
  • Closely supervised positional and live sparring
  • Problem-solving and focus under pressure
  • Optional pathways into local and national competitions

Our Friday Advanced class is by invitation from the coaching team for students ready for the next step.

For Parents

Parents Ask

Common Questions

My child is shy or has never done a sport. Is that OK?

Absolutely. Most of our children started with no experience at all. Our coaches are used to helping nervous children settle in, and classes are built around fun and encouragement.

Is it safe? Will they get hurt?

Safety comes first in every class. Children learn control, respect for their partners and how to fall safely. Sparring is closely supervised and matched by age, size and ability.

Will martial arts make my child aggressive?

Quite the opposite. Children learn discipline, self-control and when not to use what they know. Parents regularly tell us their child is calmer and more focused at home and school.

Which class should my child start in?

For Titans: Tiny Titans for 3–4, Mini Titans for 5–8, Junior Titans for 9–13. For Jiu-Jitsu: Tiny's Jiu Jitsu for 4–5 and Children's BJJ for 6–13. Not sure? Book a call

How do gradings work?

Titans: children work through the Titans syllabus rank by rank. Mini and Junior Titans follow the same syllabus for each rank – the classes are simply split by age. The Titans Syllabus Library helps them practise at home.

Jiu-Jitsu: students gain rank based on their consistency on the mats and how well they can apply what they're learning in sparring against children of a similar size and age.

Can I stay and watch?

Not for every class. Tiny Titans and Tiny's Jiu Jitsu are limited to 10 children per class, so parents are welcome to stay because of the students' young age.

Children's BJJ, Mini Titans and Junior Titans are drop-off only. One parent per class is invited to stay and watch on a rotating basis, so you'll still get to see your child train.

What do they need for their trial?

Comfortable sportswear and a drink. Loan gis are provided for Tiny's Jiu Jitsu trials. Long hair tied back and no jewellery, please.
